Race preparations continue apace in Skowhegan as the tension and excitement build for this the 8th (?) running of the Southside Tavern Sundowner Pro Canoe Race. A competitive field of maine "paddling legends" is assembling, including on the preliminary roster so far Martin/ Mathieu, McMorrow/Vincent, Owen/Anderson, Alsop/E.Mcnett, and Moore/C.Mcnett. Early handicapping is running in favor of big C2 womens upset with Moore and C. Mcnett looking very strong after demolishing field at Blackburn. Race organisers hope to field at least a dozen proboats so other entries are hoped for, including our friends from Indian Island, Aroostook, St. George and south of Portland.
There will also be as always a short rec course for canoes and kayaks, but no C1 or "racing" kayak class so this is a time to pair up for the big event. Contact John A if you need a boat. there are some available.
Race start at 6:30. Pro entry fee =$15 per paddler. Tshirts! Cash prizes down to 4th this year.
Call JA @ 2074746200 or 2074748048 for more info.
