Hi MACKRO, I’m looking for a set of training rapids (class II) to take my family on. Preferably something fairly short that we could run multiple times. Location within 1.5 hours of Portland. Any recommendations? Anyone know of available white water classes or instructors for an open canoe? Thank in advance!

Dressers rips on the Androscoggin might be an option in Auburn but not sure about easy access to just the rips...

Hi David, you ask a good question. Many MaCKRO members live in the greater Bangor / Orono area, and many of our rivers are low this time of year, so that may be part of the reason for the sparse response here. The six miles of the Kennebec River just north of The Forks" is Class I and Class II - and that could be a good option for summer paddling with a family. Check out the AMC River Guide www.amazon.com/AMC-River-Guide-Maine/dp/1934028150 for more ideas. Good luck and be safe!
