Friday - April 14
Kenduskeag Sprints - Hosted by the Orono High School Canoe Racing Team and Maine Wildwater
Details are on the MaCKRO Race Schedule, but, please, come out and support the kids. The Sprint racecourse through Shopping Cart will be reserved for the Junior and Under23 Wildwater athletes at 2:00pm and again at 4:30pm as they take the Sprint runs associated with qualifying for this year's Jr/U23 Team USA. This is a small number of kids, and the Sprint course will become open to the public probably by 2:30. Free for ACA members, and $5 for non-ACA members - but please consider making a donation to support the team.
Saturday - April 15
Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race - same as always but I just wanted to remind everyone to pre-register before 1:00pm on Friday to both save A LOT of money and to get a better starting position.
Sunday - April 16
Kenduskeag Rebound - Hosted by the Orono High School Canoe Racing Team and Maine Wildwater
Racecourse - Bulls-eye Bridge to Flour Mill
Registration - Opens at 8:00am at the finish line at Flour Mill.
Racers Meeting - 8:45am at the start (river right just above Bulls-eye Bridge)
Starts - There will be two heats one at 9:00 and one at as close to 10 as we can get. The small number of Jr and U23 Wildwater athletes competing for spots on the 2017 USA Wildwater Team will start each heat on one-minute intervals beginning promptly at 9:00am and again at approximately 10:00. Immediately after the final wildwater athlete has started in each heat, the Open division (comprised of everyone else who shows up) will start en masse. this means that public paddlers may race twice if they should choose to do so, either repeating the same division to try to better their time or in a second division.
Other Details - Participants are required to wear helmets and are required to provide safety to their fellow paddlers. This race, for the public, is just for fun and bragging rights, but for the wildwater athletes it is the second (following the Sprints on Friday) event of the USA Team Trials. Those Wildwater athletes qualifying for spot on the 2017 USA Jr/U23 Wildwater Teams will be announced immediately following Heat #2, and those athletes will represent the USA at the Wildwater Jr/U23 World Championships in Austria at the end of July.
Please come out Friday and Sunday to support the efforts of our young paddlers!
