The International Canoe Federation is holding the Junior Wildwater World Championships next year on the Nantahala River in North Carolina. This provides a very unique opportunity for teenagers in Maine to learn a new competitive paddle sport, try to qualify for the US Junior Wildwater team, and compete at a world championship.
I have successfully accumulated a fleet of used wildwater canoes and kayaks and will be training paddlers in Orono this summer and fall. This is open to all teenagers in Maine, so please spread the word to any likely kids you can think of.
Here's my more formal announcement: Serious wildwater training will take place in Orono nearly every morning that I'm in town, all summer long. This opportunity is particularly oriented to those teenagers who are interested in attempting to qualify for the 2015 US Junior Wildwater team and represent the US at the 2015 Jr World Championships on the Nantahala River in NC. The ICF rules state that: The first year a competitor can compete in a Junior World Championship is the year that his/her 15th birthday falls in and the last year he may compete as a junior is the year that his/her 18th birthday falls in. So if you turn 15, 16, 17 or 18 in the year 2015 this wildwater opportunity is for YOU! More details later once I get back from the WWOCD Nationals, but if you're interested, expect to train a lot this summer and with a lot of commitment.
Please contact me directly with questions or to express interest. Jeff

Nice stuff. Quick question: Does the ICF now recognize open canoes as a class in wild water or does your quiver include wild boats? Very different beasts with technique, paddle, and body position. Hopefully this event can lead to some renewed interest in wild water racing and racing boats.
