Can anyone tell me about Cathance River? I'd love to train there (close to my house) but it looks kinda dangerous.

I have paddled the Cathance from 295 to the falls. It is a pleasant paddle when the river is up. There is a stretch that is a portage unless you have a plastic boat and like to test your "set up" skills. I would not advise running that section. Just too narrow and ledgy.
The lower Cathance, tidal section down to Bowdoinham is a great training ground. We paddle it frequently. A beautiful stretch of water. Rarely a powerboat wake. About 4.5 miles one way, so a 9 mile paddle from Bowdoniham and back. Convenient access in Bowdoinham. The option to head for Bath or Richmond from there also. We enjoy the paddle from Brunswick to Bowdoinham on the Androscoggin River, too.
There can be a strong tidal rip at the bridge in Bowdoinham.
Enjoy,
George
