Can anyone who knows the Meduxnekeag race course give a brief summary of the water involved? (Like "mile of flatwater followed by a class 2 drop then yadda yadda ...") I've never paddled the river and am thinking about doing the race, maybe even in a new boat. Thanks much.

All depends on water level, but here's the basic idea . . .
Similar to the Passy for the first mile--narrow and windy. It continues to widen and passes through a small pond after about 2 miles; another 2.5 miles or so puts you at the first of two whitewater sections (medium class II). Three more miles gets you to the final whitewater, best taken on far river right (this is just after the first major railroad trestle). About another mile to the finish. Fastest times will be around 1:10 with decent water.

Chris--Take your new C-1W, it's a good one to start on!

Thanks guys, that's the sort of info I was looking for.
I am keen to get going with the C-1W, but it's the whole turning thing that concerns me ... maybe I'll get in a practice session this week and see if I can do a winding stream without sticking out a foot.

The first mile does have several spots with 90 degree turns. If the river is moving pretty good, you have to see them coming and set up ahead of time. If the water is rather low (which it could be), it's easier to make these sharp corners. Also--one of these corners has some logs blocking the usual channel. I may go up and try to remove them; otherwise, that could be a tricky spot for anyone not prepared for it.

Chris,
On a side note, where'd you get your C1W? I've been hunting for one myself. If you have/had any other leads on similar boats, I'd appreciate any info you'd be willing to share.
Please shoot me an e-mail at loganfeeney[at]gmail[dot]com, if it's not too much trouble. And good luck with the new boat!

Logan (and others)--Be sure Gary B. knows you're on the market for a whitewater C-1. He is planning on designing one and building them in composite, and the more people he knows are interested the sooner he may get going on the project.
His prep work on a tandem whitewater mold is nearly done, too. He hopes to have a couple of these ready for the nationals!

The Medux is at a very good level; should be about perfect for tomorrow's race.
