Members are encouraged to sign up to form a group for a lesson in the basics of white water canoeing. President Jeff Owen has said that if sufficient interest is demonstrated, some experienced Mackro paddlers would help newbies learn to safely navigate white water drops. This might give us old dogs a chance to catch up with those high-schoolers from outing clubs who already seem like veterans on the race circuit; it could give new paddlers a chance to learn to read rapids and plan lines, as well as the basic strokes and maneuvers needed for a successful run. And of course the most important part: how to stay safe. And running some local drops several times could enhance learning and give an opportunity for criticism and pointers. For this preliminary formation, please indicate your name, level of interest, experience level, and general time availability. While there is obviously no time-table yet, the goal would be to run the class as soon as possible. Of course, any experienced paddlers interested in helping teach and fish out swimmers are greatly appreciated too! You can e-mail me at thezef@yahoo.com
