The level on the Kenduskeag (based on the gauge installed in 2010) is over 8 feet as of 24 hours before start time on Saturday. The level will likely drop some in the next day, but probably will not go lower than 7.5 feet. For comparison, the level for last year's race, a true "low water year" was only 4.4 feet.* My blog post on that race and river conditions that day is here. Looks like we are in for something quite different this year. Michael Alden's Kenduskeag Stream Report --to be updated at some point today -- is here. Keep in mind, his report and photos are from Tuesday, which was before Wednesday's rain. On Tuesday, the Kenduskeag level was at just under 7.0 feet and the cfs reading was at about 1,600 as compared to the current 2,300 cfs. *Since the gauge was installed last year, we do not have stream level numbers for previous years. Additionally, cfs data was not available last year but is available for this year. A few years from now, we may be able to come pretty close to predicting winning times based on race day stream level and cfs.
