USGS Real time data available here. If you prefer to search for a Maine stream flows visually, try the USGS map here. The National Weather Service has observed and forecasted conditions for some Maine rivers here.

To get an idea of what the St. George and Passy might be doing, I usually look at the Ducktrap River Data at waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?01037380Reportedly, the Passy still has a lot of ice. The St. George was reportedly starting to get a bit bony as of yesterday, but should be headed back up where we like it today!

Dale Cross went out to look at the St. George yesterday. Apparently it is flowing real good -- at least in places. He stated the 6-mile race section of the river may likely be open enough to run by this coming weekend.

Here's the Kenduskeag today. You can see the ice bunching up in the canal stretch at the finish. The Penobscot is still mostly ice, so there's nowhere for it to go. Healthy flow rate though -- lots of water even at low tide. I looked yesterday and there was still a lot of ice in the takeout area below shopping cart. Needs another big rainstorm.

Has anyone run the Kenduskeag? I saw a few vehicles at the takeout below shopping cart this afternoon, but didn't see any boats on the water. Here's a quick snap of the drop: Anyone planning (or done) an early run of the St George?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Kenduskeag Stream gauge is at waterdata.usgs.gov/me/nwis/uv?site_no=01037000for anyone who wants to watch water levels prior to the 2013 Kenduskeag Race. For reference, the level in 2010 was 4.4 feet and the winning time was around 2:19. Even without any additional rain prior to race day, I am hoping the stream will be 4.5 feet or higher, which is a still decent (but not great) level -- about 12 inches higher than last year.

With the water where it is, I'd say anything close to three hours in C1 would be very respectable and should take home a paddle. In 2010, the fastest boat in C1Rec was 3:00:22. There was a 2:55 in C1Experienced, but I think he was in a racing boat. We'll have somewhat more water than 2010, but we're in the same ballpark. For reference, here are the water levels and winning times (all K1 in 2010-12): year | flow cfs | best time | 2010 | 330 | 2:19:05 | 2011 | 1750 | 1:59:35 | 2012 | 96(!) | 3:06:02 | 2013 | ~500? | 2:??:?? |
Welcome to the race! I'll be racing C1, so we may run into each other.

Does anyone has any insights about the Kenduskeag river gage? Is there still ice in the river where the gage is located -- as is indicated at waterdata.usgs.gov/me/nwis/current/?type=flowThe Kenduskeag gage is providing river height data as being 9.48 feet, which indicates a good flow, but it would be nice to have cfs data as well.

3480 cfs says this Kenduskeag gage this morning. If it stays at that level for the race, that would be a bigger flow than in 2014, which was the last big water year.
