The 2009 WW Race Schedule is now up at mackro.org/races.htm Keep in mind that this is only the WW portion of the schedule -- and that it looks like there may still be some revisions to the posted times and dates. Flatwater races will be added on the MaCKRO site as soon as they are available.

Is there any possibility to change the mid-week flatwater series from 5:00 pm to maybe 7:00 or so? Most paddlers have jobs during the summer that would make it difficult to cut out early. With the longer days and short course format, I don't see a lot of advantages to having an early start time.

I would add my voice to John's: I would find it very difficult to participate in any of thes weeknight events at that early hour- and I would like to do at least some of them. Between the early hour and the required travel I would have to leave my work at least three hours earlier than usual.
This would mean I would simply choose to do my FW summer paddling on more local waters at 7-7:30 pm like I usually do.

I'm not inclined to oppose John's/Clayton's suggestion at all. However, I think, since the format was agreed upon by majority vote of the MaCKRO membership, changes to the format should, at minimum, pass through a somewhat larger filtering process. Which means that we have a solid reason for the formation of a new Flatwater Committee within our organization. Given that the Flatwater Series doesn't begin for a few months, we've got time to recruit members for this committee and to create an initial agenda for them. By late May or early April I think a Flatwater Committee should be formed and becoming active. Please spread the word among the membership that we're looking for 4-8 paddlers to form this committee and begin work on behalf of our summer fun.

I voted, if you are referring to the mail in questionnaire. I do not recall having to vote on a start time. Seems a little overkill to have to have to go through a committee just to figure out what time to start a race but if that is the Mackro way, so be it. Just one of those things that make me scratch my head, crunch my eyebrows, and go "hummm."

Hmmmmm, the time is pretty hard to make for anyone working, or as myself, anyone having to drive for a couple of hours. On the other hand, the long drive home at a later hour makes for a long night before getting up early the next day to head for work. What if we alternate times at venues? If we paddle each site twice, we could do one time at 5 and the next time there at a later time??? Though some people may only be able to make half the paddles, it may be better than those not making any.

What about some time between 5 and 7? Hmmm? 6 or 6:30? John and Paula are both right. I am looking forward to the fw format that offers these repetitive events. Perhaps progress will be detectable.
