The 2015 paddle racing season is coming to a close, however there are still several racing opportunities before the snow flies. This Sunday, October 11th is the War Canoe Race on Long Pond on Mt Desert Island. Registration starts at 10:30 with the races starting at 12:00 noon. $25 includes all-you-can-eat barbecue at the Atlantic Brewing Co. Just show up and you will be assigned to a boat with paddles and life jackets provided if you don’t already have them. The last scheduled race of the season is the Muskrat Scramble on Saturday October 24th on Sedgeunkedunk Stream in Orrington. Race starts at 1pm and is an out and back course starting at the dam just beyond Bob's Kozy Korner store on Brewer Lake Road which is at intersection with Johnson Mill Road. The race is about 4 miles on Sedgeunkedunk Stream. The course is winding flatwater with no rapids and negligible current. No entry fee, beginners welcomed, modest prizes given. This is fun late season race that gives paddlers one last chance to race before winter sets in. Contact: Larry Merril at lawmerr@gmail.com for more information.
Both of these races count for the season flat water series. Flat water series awards will be presented at the annual meeting which will be held probably in early November. More details concerning the annual meeting will be out shortly. Enjoy these last warm fall days on the water!”
