Greetings. As some of you have probably heard, for the last few years, I've been collecting canoe racing results and putting them in a database. While both the data and the site are WORKS IN PROGRESS, I thought I would invite you to explore the data I've already processed at www.paddlestats.net/. Gentle helpful comments are always welcome. If the last five generations of paddlers in your family all have the same name, however, neither I nor the computer can be blamed if we can't sort out which one of you is which.
Keep in mind, I've only entered a fraction of the data I have and that is only scratching the surface of what is available (Bangor Daily News has particularly good race coverage), so keep visiting the site.
I'd like to take the opportunity to send out a big thank you to the many people who have shared with me the race results they have collected over the years. I'd particularly like to thank Paul Dyka, Jeff DeFeo, Bob Allen, Travis Wheeler, Ed Sharp, Tim Lewis, Charley Brackett, Tussey Mountain Outfitters, and the Bangor Public Library.
While I've been fairly relentless in my efforts to track down race results in Southern New England, Maine has so far been spared the brunt of my persistence. That's likely to change. I'm not kidding: I really do want your old race results - especially anything prior to 2001 (but you can see I have gaps even in the years since then). While digital files are welcome, I'm pretty good at entering data by hand, so I will take whatever you have. I'll even make copies and send back the originals. Feel free to contact me if you have results to share! I know someone out there is hoarding Kenduskeag results. In case you are concerned, the data is freely available to anyone who wants it; it's a labor of love rather than profit.
Hope to see you on the river.
