The WWOCD Nationals are on the Nantahala in N.C. again this year with practice on Monday, June 16 and competition on Tues - Thursday, June 17 - 19. Details for the event are available at:

I think that this may be the last year these nationals will be on the Nanty for a while making it the year to go if you haven't been there yet. It is a very fun river, no more difficult than our St. George or Passy races. The venue is in the Great Smoky Mountain National Forest making for beautiful scenery and ideal family vacations. Once racing is done each day there is hiking, mt. biking, and swimming nearby along with zip-lines and great food.
Please make sure H. Rubin, J. Winslow and the East Grand kids read this, and any other high school age kids you know of who might want to attend:
The ACA will match up to $150 to support kids trying to travel to the event. The support would go through the kid's school, so kids can either get their school to pitch in or have a bake sale or get some local sponsors. If the kid raises $150 then ACA will donate an additional $150 for a total of $300. (Note, this is $150 per school, not per kid.) The support check from ACA will be made out to the kid's school and will be distributed at the event registration. The request for travel assistance form is available at:
www.americancanoe.org/?page=Travel_Assistance
Orono High School has reserved some accommodations very near the Nantahala. If it turns out that we have extra beds we will make them available to MaCKRO members who want to go to the event. Check back here for updates.
Feel free to contact me with questions. I've taken the Orono High GoActive! team to the Nanty the last two years and would love to help others figure out how to make it happen.
