I was searching Craigslist and found a guy in Vermont just listed the mold for a Bill Nutt wildwater boat for free. If anyone knows how to pass this information along maybe he would want his brother's(?) mold.

Interesting! Billy Nutt was the designer of a boat called the X-5 that was produced by Doug Bushnell of West Side Boat Shop in New York. You can still get a look at this boat on the West Side website. I had an XR-5, a modified version of the X-5, and it was ahead of its time--one of the fastest available, especially in shallows, and more stable than most of that style of boat. That would be a cool mold to have. If Dave Nutt doesn't want it, MaCKRO ought to ask for it and start of fleet of wildwater K1s!

One way or another, it would be great to keep that mold out of the landfill -- and get it to Maine. I have space to store it if that is a problem. Seems like a great thing for MaCKRO to have on hand. Anyone heading to Vermont in the next few weeks?

Ray,
I spoke to Dave Nutt either at the St. George start or the Passy start, don't remember. But probably get the address from the Belfast Y. His mold is for an older design, a Phoenix, a decent general purpose pleasant to paddle wildwater boat. Great trainer. From the time when you were not allowed hollows in the sections.

I wrote the guy and he said if nobody picks it up in the next 2 weeks it is going to the landfill. He sent me a photo, but the file dumps out every time I try to load it. It would cartop easy enough.

Hi Ben - Billy Nutt lives near Hanover, NH. Perhaps he'd go rescue the mold if no one from Maine is heading that way.

I got another note from the guy that he had already taken it to the weigh station. He said that the worker at the dump realized it may be useful to someone and didn't toss it right off. I have the number to the facility if someone wants to go rescue it.

MaCKRO may end up with this mold yet! It was rescued from the dump and somehow the new owner got word that kayakers in Maine were interested. I have his e-mail and it sounds like he plans to build a boat with it and then we can have it. He too lives in Vermont, so it looks like a roadtrip is in order once he is finished with it. -Hope this works out.
