The message below if via email from John Alsop:
All: our Quebec friends from St. Geo have challenged us to a war canoe race at the Sundowner (Aug. 1). They want to come down with a 11 person Rabaska, the big war canoe that races it's own class at Shawinigan. They will bring a second one for us. So we think we might convert the pro class this year to a war canoe race. I need some feedback on interest on this. Please email me at johnalsop@beeline-online.net to let me know if you want to race, either in one of our Maine war canoes or the rabaska. Be fun to see 3 or 4 big canoes in this international competition ! Cheers ja

John, I am sure you could field at least one 10-11 member team in their boat. Or- we could put together 2 teams in the one of the three or four 7-10 person boats in ME. finding 20-30 paddlers to fill these big boats is the challenge - esp. if you want competitive teams. You might consider trying to assemble one 'elite' team and one or two 'fun' teams.

Sounds like fun. I'll try to make it. Anyone got a spare canoe paddle?

Would love to see more war canoes make it for the West Grand Lake Race a few days later on Aug. 4 in Grand Lake Stream... Our best races on the 12 mile course have been between war canoes. 6 and 4 mile loops also available. www.downeastlakes.org/events/west-grand-lake-race/ Mark

I can schedule time out to be there if a competetive/elite team is being put together. My son Owen could possibly be there as well! Please let me know!
