The below is copied from an email from Jon Hill: Hi Paddlers, MaCKRO has been increasingly involved with introducing new paddlers to canoe and kayak racing. Jeff Owen’s “Go Active” group, from Orono High School, has upwards of 15 new members who are complete novices. Having these kids be successful in a white water race will give them a lift that may last a lifetime! The best way to guarantee success is with an experienced person in the stern. MaCKRO has used the St. George and the Passy races as opportunities to match experienced adults with youth and needs volunteers to do it again this year. Help is needed on these dates: 3-29-13 from 4:30 to 6:30 at the St George clinic 3-30-13 for the St George race 4-5-13 from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Passy clinic 4-6-13 for the Passy race. Please send Jeff a note if you are willing to help with the races and/or clinics. Here’s his e-mail address: jcowen_01 yahoo.com
In the past, the adults seemed to have as much fun as the kids! Please consider volunteering.
Thanks, Jon

Here's an excerpt from a message from the races' director, Dale Cross:
This has such a positive effect on both the youngster and the volunteer, not to mention the race attendance!!!! I will help out with transportation on the Friday night if you need it like I did either last year or the year before. St. George is up and ready to challenge our paddling community again! It is time to get out and enjoy the outdoors!!!! Let’s introduce a youth to it, last year we had 35 High school and younger in the St. George race, Most ever!!!! Hope we can top that mark this year!! Really great stuff!! Would it be cool to have 50 youth this year!! ( great goal to set our sights on)
