The Marsh Stream Race is new to me. I would like to take a look. Is there a map or description of the course? Put in - take out? Drops?
Thanks,
George

The Marsh Stream Race is new to me. I would like to take a look. Is there a map or description of the course? Put in - take out? Drops? Thanks, George The Bangor YMCA is running the race this year, which is a change. (In the past, Bill Deighan ran it). I'm not sure if they plan to make any changes to the race in terms of where it starts and where it finishes. These details were often dependent on the level of the river anyway. You can call the Bangor YMCA at 941-2808. You might also try to contact Bill D. If you want to run the Marsh in a week or two (once it opens up), give me a call or send an email. My contact information is on the contact page of the MaCKRO site. See you on the water! Ray

The usual full course runs from the Loggin Rd (West Winterport on the Delorme Maine Atlas) to a point about a half a mile upstream from Frankfort town center, with a manditory portage around Flat Rock Falls (big stretch of ledge). There's normally a short course for novices that omits the most difficult whitewater. But as Ray says, the water level is key, so the actual course could be quite different. Last year it was very low and the whole thing moved upstream.

Thank you both for your replies. I am sorting out my schedule for the next couple of weeks and probably the St. George will be all I can manage this month. Do you know which drop seems to be so common in the photo spreads of the Marsh Stream race? Can it be scouted from shore?
George

Probably the most popular place for photography on the Marsh Stream is the "roadside rapid", which is a series of drops where Stream Rd is just 50 yards or so from the river. (There's a good picture of the underside of my boat in that rapid ... but I digress.) Here's a link: maps.google.com/maps?ll=44.637197,-68.880238&spn=0.001305,0.003095&t=h&z=19 The answer to the same question for the St. George is the "Robbins" rapid where the river goes under Ghent Rd near the modern Robbins lumber mill. maps.google.com/maps?ll=44.335962,-69.198774&spn=0.001151,0.002406&t=h&z=19
