The 30 Mile Aroostook River Canoe & Kayak Race has been CANCELED for this year. I could not convince the committee to continue to hold the race. We did talk about maybe holding it on a different day next year as there seems to be some conflict with other races.
I want to thank everyone for the phone calls and the one's that did pre-register your support was greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Randolph Michaud Chief NS-SAR

I'd just like to echo what others have said that this race is perhaps more popular than recent turnout would suggest. I couldn't do it this year because of a work conflict, but before that I was hoping to do it and bring my family up there. 30 miles is a great length for people who aspire to be marathon paddlers but aren't ready for the Clinton. And anyway it's an excuse to get out of town and head north.
If you decide to try again next year (and I hope you will) I'd encourage you to use us MaCKRO folks as a resource when the calendar takes shape in the winter.

I had a 3 other folks who were ready to register a few days prior to the race on Wednesday and the decision to cancel the race had already been made...unfortunately we did'nt register sooner, but sometimes people can't commit too far in advance......I would hate to think that because of our tardiness and if two more canoes and 4 more people had signed up the race would have gone on.
