Championship Week is Here!!
Please come to Orono this Thursday, Aug. 19th for the final event of MaCKRO's 2010 Flatwater Point Series Championship.
To those of you who haven't come to any of the events this summer, PLEASE come to this final event and help make it an EVENT.
So, this is a special invitation to:
--all youth from this Spring's whitewater races.........come celebrate summer paddling with us.
--all MaCKRO members...........come support our summertime efforts to promote paddling.
--all racers...........come help us create the most competitive line-up of the year.
All recreational racers will start together first. Five minutes later, all tandem racing boats. Then, five minutes later, the K-1 and C-1 boats will start in the race for Bragging Rights.
If you own a flatwater K-1 or C-1, please, PLEASE, come join this event. Even if you haven't been in it this year........or if you prefer other boats now and don't really paddle it anymore.........or if you haven't paddled this year and you're out-of-shape...........or, WHATEVER........PLEASE come support this event.
The 45 +/- minute race course will be the same as it has been the last two times on the Stillwater in Orono, with one addition. Instead of finishing at the bridge, paddlers will do a turn around a bridge piling and finish at a buoy in front of Brown's Beach. This adds one turn and about 4 minutes to the course, and gives the spectators a better view of the finish.
If you have children, bring them. I'd love to hold some kids races between 5 and 6pm. A little time trial course right at Brown's Beach with ribbons for all entrants at the awards ceremony.
No registration fee, though donations will be greatly appreciated.
Join us downstairs in the Tap Room at Pat's Pizza afterwards for the awards celebration.
Brown's Beach is a small riverside park and parking lot 1/3 mile north of downtown Orono on route 16 (Bennoch Rd.). Those of you with dashboard GPS units, navigate to 79 Bennoch Rd., which is the property directly across Bennoch from the parking area.
Schedule:
5-6pm Time Trials for Kids
6-6:15pm Check-in for Championship Events
6:15 Racers meeting on the grass at Brown's Beach
6:30pm Recreational Race Start
6:35pm Tandem Racing Boats Start
6:40pm K-1 and C-1 Racing Boats Start
Roughly 8:00pm Awards and Celebration at the Tap Room begins
PLEASE come and participate!!!! Jeff
