The Marsh Stream Downriver Race has been moved three miles upstream. The start is near the bridge 3 miles upstream from the usual starting point. The finish will be near the Snowmobile Bridge -- about 3 miles upriver of the usual finish. The Sprint Race is also on but will also have a different course. Other details, including time of registration and place of registration remain the same. (Registration is at the snowmobile club; from there you can get directions to the start). Note: Please park at the Snowmobile Club and please respect the neighbors and drive slowly on the dirt road in. Thanks. We paddled the river with race director Bill D. today and were happy to see that although the river is not "high," it is high enough for a good fun race. For those who have not done the Marsh Stream before, this is an excellent year to get started. At this level, the river is gentle and very do-able by less experienced paddlers. Additionally, the fact that the race is ending 3 miles upstream means that the most difficult drops and the portages will not be included in this year's race. No portages! Pics from today's paddle below: The "upper river" is mostly flatwater with some riffles and shallow sandy areas. Another shot of the upper river. The site of the old dam (just above the traditional start) is now a slide, best run on the right, that drops maybe 5 feet over 30 feet. The shot above and those below show the area near Snowmobile Bridge which is rocky but runnable.
