Any sheltered lakes or streams for a paddling workout in the Portland area?

The last 6 miles of the Royal River (above the dam) in Yarmouth are a great paddle. I think it is listed in the Delorme. I have put in at the bottom and paddle up and back to get in a good 12 miles with very little effect from the slow current.

There's a long stretch of good paddling on the Presumpscot, too. We've always put in at the pumping station right where Forest Ave. (is that Rt. 302?) out of Portland crosses the stream.
