I have a Wenonah Jensen Competition USCA Cruiser, 18'6", in kevlar, shallow water model, in very good condition, sliding bow and stern seats, will include two bent shaft paddles, asking $1250. I am in Yarmouth, do not have a vehicle which could handle delivery, so pickup would be necessary. I have pictures, have not figured out how to post them here. Ed Ashley

Folks,
Down sizing, I have a Max Anderson 1950s vintage K-1 that was given to me; old Philadelphia canoe club boat; hot molded wood hull fabric deck. It was given to me, I patched the hull and rebuilt the stern. I'd like to pass it along free. Surfski like speed, good for marathoning or serious workouts. Should be storedn undercover. Yours free if you think you can stay upright. I can bring it to the St George race for you to have a look.

Hello, I am doing a project on seasonal migratory food ways in Maine this spring summer fall and am in need of a good used canoe. I plan on doing the Saco, Anasagunticook, Kennebec, Penobscot from origin to ocean. If anyone could help I'd gladly feature your vessel in the documentary that will be the end product of this adventure. This will be seen by thousands of students across the country as part of a Culinary Anthropology curriculum I have been building over the last decade.

Just anecdotally the sprint vs long distance speeds seem off... at least for canoes. I race marathon canoes in the pro class, and the boats are 18.5'x27" and the max sprint speed should be 5.78 mph according to the calculator, but we can easily maintain 6.52 mph for hours and hours. In the stock class (18.5'x32") we can maintain the expected sprint speed of 5.16 mph basically indefinitely and usually race around 5.9 mph. Curious to hear others' real world comparisons? What I would say is that the MARGIN between hull designs seems about right. In the real world I see stock class boats traveling about 0.62 mph slower than pro class boats given the same paddlers. Thanks for the feedback. I am also wondering if you are racing solo or with a partner in your marathon racing canoes. Obviously, the hull speed numbers would be need to be adjusted in the case of two paddlers rather than one.

Wish I could delete my last comment... math errors abound! In real life my experiences are pretty close to this calculator, except sprint speed = racing speed for a long distance.

This is an old thread but pretty neat! I am surprised to not have heard of this calculation before. Have you experienced any truth to the numbers spit out by this calculator? I'm considering a few different options for canoes to race in flatware categories.

I have a super light(17 lbs) RPM. It is a Flatwater boat of DR boat Length(14'9"), with out a rudder. It was designed to race in the DR boat class on flatish rivers. Great boat for training and racing in the DR class on flat rivers. Faster on flat water than any DR boat. I am in Concord MA but I come to Maine regularly. Built by Doug Bushnell, West side boatshop.

14' medium volume whitewater boat, stored for a long time inside and hardly used. Great deal on a nice beginner's boat. $150 including paddle. If interested contact me at kseburn@myfairpoint.net and I can send pictures.
